Burnin
Terms of use
Short, and written to be read. Section 3 is the one that matters before you export.
1. This agreement
These terms are between you and the individual developer who builds and operates Burnin, not a company. By installing or using the Burnin app, or this website, you accept them. If you do not, do not use Burnin.
Burnin is distributed through the App Store, so Apple's own terms apply to the download alongside these. Apple is not a party to this agreement and has no responsibility for the app or for support of it.
2. What you may do with Burnin
You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use Burnin on devices you own or control, for your own videos. That licence lasts as long as you follow these terms.
You may not resell, rent or redistribute the app, take it apart to recreate it, remove attributions from it, or use automated means to abuse the model download services it relies on. You may not use Burnin to caption content you do not have the right to caption, or to break the law.
3. Caption accuracy
Automatic transcription and captioning are not perfect, and you are responsible for reviewing what Burnin produces before you rely on it or publish it. Burnin gives you a starting point, not a finished, guaranteed-accurate transcript.
- Transcribed text can be wrong, mis-segmented, or attributed to the wrong speaker. Review and edit captions before exporting or publishing a video.
- Gap detection reduces the chance a span of speech goes uncaptioned. It does not guarantee that no speech is ever missed, particularly on quiet, overlapping, or noisy audio.
- Speaker diarization is an estimate of who is speaking, not a verified identification of any person.
- Burnin is not a substitute for professional or legally required captioning or subtitling services where accuracy standards, such as accessibility compliance, must be certified.
4. No accounts
Burnin has no account system. There is nothing to register, sign into, or delete on a server, because nothing about your use of the app is stored anywhere but your own device.
5. Your videos
You keep all ownership of the videos you import into Burnin and the captioned videos it produces. Burnin claims no licence to your content beyond what is needed to process it locally on your device to provide the app's functionality. You are responsible for having the right to use, transcribe and caption whatever video you import.
6. Availability and changes
Burnin is offered as it is. On-device transcription requires iPhone 12 or later; on an unsupported device, or the Simulator, transcription is not available. Features can be added, changed or removed, and the service can be interrupted for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We do not promise uninterrupted or error-free operation.
If a paid feature is ever introduced, its price and terms will be stated before you pay and purchases will be handled by Apple under Apple's refund rules.
7. Ownership and attribution
The Burnin app, its name, its design and its code are ours, except for the components below, which belong to their authors and are used under their licences:
- Apple's on-device speech transcription framework, used under Apple's platform terms.
- The FluidAudio speaker-diarization model and library, under its own licence.
8. Liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Burnin is provided without warranties of any kind, and we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost data, or loss arising from an inaccurate caption, a missed gap, or a misattributed speaker. Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or anything else that cannot be limited under Turkish law. Where you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected.
Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you have paid for Burnin in the twelve months before the claim, which is zero unless a paid feature exists and you purchased it.
9. Ending it
You can stop using Burnin at any time by deleting the app, which removes every project and file it holds along with it, since nothing is stored anywhere else. We may end this licence if you materially break these terms.
10. Governing law
Turkish law governs these terms, and the courts and enforcement offices of Istanbul have jurisdiction. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory rules of the country you live in, and you may also use the consumer arbitration committees available to you in Turkey.
11. Changes to these terms
If these terms change, the effective date above changes and the current version is always here. A change that materially affects you will be shown in the app before it takes effect. Continuing to use Burnin after that is acceptance.
